Former American Bankers Association CEO and Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating was interviewed for the now-vacant position of FBI director, but he told The Oklahoman newspaper he doesn't expect to get the job.
Keating led ABA from 2011 to 2015. Rob Nichols succeeded him. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer announced Wednesday that Keating was one of four candidates interviewed by President Donald Trump to lead the FBI following former Director James Comey's firing on May 9.
Keating, 73, confirmed to The Oklahoman that he had meet with Trump, but downplayed his prospects of landing the position.
"If they wanted me, I certainly would be honored, but I really don't think that's going to happen," he said.
Keating was Oklahoma's governor from 1995 to 2003. He previously was a U.S. district attorney who eventually was appointed associate attorney general of the Department of Justice during the Reagan administration. He also spent eight years as CEO of the CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers before joining ABA.
Keating currently is a partner in global law firm Holland & Knight.
Trump also planned to meet with former Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman; former FBI Official Richard McFeely; and acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, according to Spicer. http://bit.ly/2rj21gl
